Historic Blountville Flea Market and Yard Sale 2009

2nd Annual Historic Blountville Flea Market and Yard Sale

Get ready for the 2nd Annual Historic Blountville Flea Market and Yard Sale coming to downtown Blountville on September 11!  Sullivan County is rapidly gearing up for this year’s festive occasion which will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Blountville as vendors from across the region gather to make this one of Sullivan County’s largest events!  Sure to be a bargain-hunter’s paradise and fun for the entire family!

Vendors will include area churches, businesses, non-profit organizations, commercial vendors and private individuals from around the region.   Visitors will enjoy a wide array of arts, crafts, antiques, garage sale items and other items.  Specialty food vendors will include pulled pork barbeque, hot dogs, hamburgers, blooming onions, polish sausage, soup beans and cornbread, kettlecorn, funnel cakes, deep fried oreos, snow-cones, fresh-squeezed lemonade and more. Numerous area businesses, churches and non-profit organizations are participating and will be giving away free items and discount coupons on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Children’s area will include “Inflatable Fun”, a unique play area for children who will be all smiles and have loads of fun as they jump, climb and super slide all under the watchful eye of a trained staff.  Face-painting will be available from 2 local artisans, Heather Pugh and Lori Campbell.

Music will be provided by the Nomadz, a Blountville-based band known across the U.S. for its versatility.  Comprised of five musicians and vocalists, the ensemble has been compared to the Doobies and Grateful Dead, but with an Appalachian blues influence of Goose Creek or the Metro Blues Allstars.  Headed up by Jim Graybeal, Sonny Leonard, Adam Graybeal, Jason Malone and Travis Arend, the group will delight buyers and sellers alike with some of that 50s-60s rock-and- roll!

Additional instrumental music will be provided by Tommy Rose, a former member of the Washington Redskins Pro Football League Band, and a member of Jamboree USA.  A guest star on the Grand Old Opry, Mr. Rose also played as a senator in the Walt Disney movie, “Love Leads the Way” which also starred Patricia Neal.  He was also an actor on “I-40 Paradise” on the Nashville Network, and has performed in various places across the U.S.

The Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism has already received an overwhelming response from vendors who are signing up for the event.  Last year’s event drew over 250 vendors, and the event was noted to have drawn over an estimated 10,000 people from Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

Want to register for vendor space?  Better hurry… Spaces are going fast!  Spaces are 12’x12’ and the cost is $10 for individuals, $15 for commercial vendors, and churches are free!  Everyone must be pre-registered and all tables must be accompanied by an official registration poster issued by the Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism.  Vendors with special permits may arrive early for the event; however, shoppers will be permitted to enter the event only after 8 a.m. The event is rain or shine.
